Chaplinfest 2011

A full-on film party for one star, at another star's abode.

    Chaplinfest 2011
Chaplinfest 2011 is at the William S. Hart Ranch on Saturday, Feb. 5 and Sunday, Feb. 6.

The concept of the mash-up tends to be dominated by music, but we like when mash-uppery comes to unexpected quarters.

Like, say, a two-day party in honor of a major silent star, at the home of another major silent star. We don't believe Charlie Chaplin ever worked with cowboy William S. Hart -- movie buffs, tell us otherwise if they did -- but the Hart Ranch seems an elegant and ideal setting for Chaplinfest 2011.

Chaplinfest 2011 is happening on Saturday, Feb. 5 and Sunday, Feb. 6 at the Newhall landmark. Stars will show, like Tippi Hedren, historians like Leonard Maltin will speak, and there will be screenings at nearby Saugus Station.

Oh, and fun fact: Ms. Hedren, best known for a certain ornithological-minded movie, starred in Mr. Chaplin's final film, "A Countess from Hong Kong."

There's a lot happening over the weekend, including a display of props from the actor's seminal "Modern Times." (The fest is celebrating the classic's 75th anniversary, in fact.) Best look over the schedule before heading for the Hart.
