Cycle for Heroes

Book a stationary bike at Santa Monica Pier and help support a good cause.

It's a pretty offbeat and epic site: Dozens upon dozens of stationary bikes lined up at Santa Monica Pier, while riders wait their turn to spin for an hour or two.

The reason? They're raising money for Cycle for Heroes, which lends support to The Heroes Project, "an organization that takes wounded soldiers, Marines, and vets to the 7 Summits of the World"; it also works to "improve the care and protection of heroes" through community events such as the one on Santa Monica Pier.

The date is Tuesday, Sept. 11.

Who will be there? A number of veterans and soldiers involved with the organization, as well as celebrities taking to a cycle for an hour or two; the night has a rock 'n roll theme, so it would not be surprising to see some music industry people in the mix.

Equinox, Chrome Hearts, and Tender Greens, which is providing food to the riders, are behind the fundraiser as well.

So, how to join? You can donate to The Heroes Project, or you can book a cycle for yourself; it's a $125 donation for an hour of riding. There are also team-creation options, too. The cycling is that night, we should mention, from 6 to 10 p.m., so if you're at work during the day, we bet you can make it.
