A pleasure that's all too rare is experiencing a famous silent film screened with live music, be it the traditional organ or the very nontraditional theremin. In the Nursery, an electronica act hailing from Sheffield, England, holds a special fondness for silent cinema, so much so that they've created a full score for the 1928 work "The Passion of Joan of Arc." Hollywood electronica and cinephiles are in for a treat, when the band appears at Silent Movie Theatre to play alongside that very film.
The movie? If you know the story of Joan of Arc, you'll know this European masterpiece will be intense, dramatic and full of profound questions regarding faith and service. The musicians? Fans of this techno-minded Brit trio know that the artists who make up In the Nursery are highly regarded leaders of the industrial and electronica sound scene; they've also provided tons of tunes for movies like "Interview with a Vampire" If you haven't heard the band's work, expect the theater to be awash in haunting, ethereal tones that deepen deep scenes and lend an otherworldliness when required (which will be often with "Joan").
We've heard that In the Nursery has also scored "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari," one of our favorite films, silent or otherwise. So we are hopeful that this event will lead to many more return engagements for the band at Silent Movie. It sounds like a sweet match indeed.
