Gay Men's Chorus Feels "L'Amour"

The group turns to Baz Luhrmann films for inspiration.

    Gay Men's Chorus Feels "L'Amour"
Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles
The Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles performs the works of Baz Luhrmann at Avalon Hollywood on Saturday, June 19 and Sunday, June 20.

The soundtrack of "Moulin Rouge!" is still on heavy rotation for many people. Or should we say "soundtracks?" There were multiple discs released for the film.

The modern-meets-Montmartre vibe, the celeb voices (David Bowie, Beck), the lush romance -- all epically appealing. Now the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles will be taking on those tales told through song, in addition to works from other Baz Luhrmann-directed films. The evening has the perfectly Luhrmannesque title of "L'Amour."

Are you hearing dozens of voices raised in "Lady Marmalade" right now? Pre-thrills.

The chorus is also moving to the Avalon Hollywood for the Saturday, June 19 and Sunday, June 20 shows. Very suitable for the baroque textures and velvety moods imparted by a Luhrmann-selected soundtrack.

Looking forward to "Come What May," and selections from "Romeo + Juliet" and "Strictly Ballroom," too. Tickets start at $15; there are four shows over the two days.
