The new (and free) Grauman's Gallery debuts at the Chinese Theatre on Wednesday, May 16.

While the famous forecourt of Grauman's Chinese Theatre offers tourist-sweet charms aplenty, we think we have a few favorites.

One? The guardian lions at the door. So regal.

Two? Everyone is looking down. Where else does that happen? Except the Walk of Fame, maybe?

And three? All the stars' names you see on all of those slabs? That means they were right there, in that forecourt, at one time. All of those big names in that single place. Marilyn and R2D2 and Judy and everyone. Which is thrilling.

Upping those thrills is the debut of the new Grauman's Gallery, which will celebrate, via photos, a lot of those major forecourt moments. The gallery's opening is part of the Chinese Theatre's big 85th year celebrations.

A photo of a celebrity who is a) laughing b) while flat on their tummy c) and holding up their cement-covered palms? It's now part of pop culture legend. Our mind goes to that iconic Marilyn Monroe/Jane Russell photograph. You know the one. Homina homina.

And perhaps just as thrilling? Entry to the new Grauman's Gallery is totally free. Add it to another place to take the out-of-towners.

So, where to find this new free place? It's on the 3rd floor, just east of the historic theater. Ask at the box office if you're need further pointers.
