Jazz and Art in Leimert Park

Randy Crawford will be singing at the three-day fest.

Sometimes a festival stretches over three days come a holiday weekend, when two would truly suffice.

But the Leimert Park Village African Art & Music Festival is very much a three-day fair; it could go to four in future years. After all, it has a bevy of stars lined up for its stage, including jazz legend Randy Crawford. You've heard Ms. Crawford's "Street Life"? Here's an excellent version to get you excited for the weekend.

There will be more great performers, like Azar Lawrence, Medusa, and Wadada. There will be an international food court, says the site, so that puts two international food festivals before you over the holiday weekend. And family to-dos (kids can learn dance moves and stories) and art to see and an auction and the other touchstones of a big and festive festival.

The dates are Saturday, Sept. 4 through Monday, Sept. 6, the place is Degnan Boulevard and 43rd Street in Leimert Park, and again, admission is free. The Leimert Park Festival blog details in full the children's events and artists who will be appearing over the weekend; check it out.
