Saying that people plan their dinner reservations and dentist appointments and long-awaited friend phone calls around their favorite NPR shows is the taddest bit unfair.
Probably not the friend phone calls at least.
In short, those shows have a big following, a loyal following, and we're betting the series that the new KCRW series "Up Close" will stir up the regular listeners, too, in part because the shows will be live events that fans can attend.
Movie maven Elvis Mitchell will host "Up Close," which is fully arts-and-culture'd-out at its chitchat-y heart. The show will record at the NPR HQ in Culver City, and Catherine Keener will be guest No. 1 on Tuesday, June 22. If you don't or can't attend, the interview will show later online at both NPR and KCRW. (Note the online designation there; it will not be not air on the radio.)
There will be more shows to come.
The Keener hour tickets are on sale now. They're $35 each. KCRW says tickets are limited, and to that, we say, seriously.
