LA Zoo Goes Gorilla

If you love gorillas (and who doesn't?), the Los Angeles Zoo has something special for you this weekend.

The zoo is hosting "Go Gorilla! Weekend" on Saturday and Sunday. As part of the festivities, visitors can meet the newest primate, Alafia. The 18-year-old gorilla just joined the zoo from Seattle's Woodland Park Zoo.

The event is "helping raise awareness and funds for gorilla conservation beginning with event will feature information on current conservation projects, educational talks about the zoo's gorillas, gorilla-themed games and pointers on how to help save these fascinating animals," according to the zoo.

Plus for the younger members of your clan, they can become Junior Gorilla Researchers.

The Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens is located in Griffith Park at the junction of the 134 and 5 freeways. Admission is $13 for adults and $8 for children (ages 2 to 12). The Zoo is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. For information, call 323-644-4200 or visit www.lazoo.org.
