A past Lantern Festival in China; the 2010 Chinese American Museum Lantern Festival will take place on Saturday, March 6.

It happens just about two weeks into the first month of the lunar new year. Since that's just about where we are, it is time to celebrate.

We're talking about the 2010 Lantern Festival, a free party hosted by the Chinese American Museum. CAM has been hosting the family-nice celebration for nearly a decade -- this year marks its ninth outing -- and the list of goings-on seem to grow each year.

Up on Saturday, March 6: lantern making, of course. Metal etching courses (with a focus on the zodiac). And fan crafts.

Plus several other educational, festive, and celebratory things to see/learn/be a part of. The festival is on from noon to 7 p.m. on March 6.

We can't depart with tempting with a promise of a glow-in-the-dark silver dragon, which will come, we would expect, near or after dark. Worth staying for, but only if you like to look and enjoy wonderful things.
