Ribbon Officially Cut at Madame Tussauds Hollywood

Hollywood's latest star-studded attraction moved a step closer to opening Tuesday, when city officials helped cut the ribbon on Madame Tussauds Hollywood wax museum, which features recreations of more than 100 of the entertainment world's biggest names.

The $55 million museum at Hollywood Boulevard and Orange Drive --- next to Grauman's Chinese Theatre -- will open to the public Aug. 1.

"Madame Tussauds Hollywood is a perfect example of how new growth in Los Angeles is helping us weather these tough economic times," Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said. "Here we have construction jobs and soon it will join the ranks of iconic attractions that draw visitors to Los Angeles from across the United States and around the world."

Officials with Merlin Entertainments Group, the parent company of Madame Tussauds, said the three-story, 40,000-square-foot Hollywood location is the first Madam Tussauds museum that was built from the ground up. Madame Tussauds also has museums in London, Amsterdam, Las Vegas, New York, Hong Kong, Shaghai, Berlin and Washington, D.C.

Among the celebrities immortalized in the museum are Elizabeth Taylor, Bruce Willis, Will Smith, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Angelina Jolie, Justin Timberlake, Penelope Cruz, Britney Spears, Jennifer Aniston and Daniel Craig. The wax figures cost an average of $300,000 each.
