Both Susanna Hoffs and Matthew Sweet became major forces on the pop music scene a couple of decades back or so. Ms. Hoffs, of course, led The Bangles -- The Bangles! -- to enough radio-big hits to line a girly charm bracelet, if songs could be converted into pretty baubles.
Probably "Manic Monday" would be the colorful clasp that held the whole bracelet together. In this fantasy.
Matthew Sweet was Mr. Early Awesome Alt-y '90s -- that's not to pigeonhole the man, of course, because "Girlfriend" remains a tight and timeless scoop-someone-you-love-up-in-a-hug ditty -- but he's continued to be a player in the indie-rock-college-underground world. No small feat.
Another feat that is in no way small: putting out not one but two albums covering golden-rays-park-days hits of the '60s and '70s. Ms. Hoffs and Mr. Sweet took on the Paisley Decade in their first album "Under the Covers, Vol. 1" a few years back. Now the twosome has returned with "Under the Covers, Vol. 2," a poppy paean to the Corduroy Years. That would be the '70s.
So of course Lindsey Buckingham is guesting. Yay! And other good folks. Susanna Hoffs and Matthew Sweet are celebrating the album's release date by heading for the GRAMMY Museum.
