“McPhee” Sneak Peek at Magical Spot

The LA Conservancy is hosting a special day out.

Mid-August is not the time for tears.

And yet, they come, all too often. Summer is waning in the waniest way. No. 2 pencils are lining drugstore shelves (we never cry about that though, being batty for back-to-school time). And it is usually very, very hot.

Enter a mischievous, magical Brit flick, and a magical if not mischievous vintage theater, and the LA Conservancy. The Conservancy has reserved the Orpheum on the afternoon of Sunday, Aug. 15 for a sneak peek of "Nanny McPhee Returns" (also known as "Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang" elsewheres).

Tickets are $10 each for grown-ups; the kid price is eight bucks.

We're talking about this right now in an effort to head off any tears that might fall due to anyone waiting to long to get tickets to this. This feels major-family-day-out-ish to us.

And major-adult-out-ish, too. Ewan McGregor is in this movie. So are two Maggies we're sweet like, Ms. Smith and Ms. Gyllenhaal.

And Emma Thompson. Emma Emma Emma Thompson. We should note that none of the actors are listed as attending the Aug. 15 event, but we had to use a photo of the sumptuous Ms. Thompson at the film's London premiere with this post.

Because when one is gifted with a picture of camera-wielding paparazzi, a decked-out Emma Thompson, and a pig on a leash, one does not refuse such a blessing.

"Nanny McPhee Returns" opens wide on Friday, Aug. 20.
