In a town packed with interesting hyphenates, Bryan Batt has the one we like best: Actor/Broadway vet/interior designer.
A person would be lucky to excel at one of those roles in a lifetime. But Mr. Batt has, and now he can add memoirist to the list, too.
"She Ain't Heavy, She's My Mother" is his just-published look back at his life in New Orleans, his fabled family (the Batts were much involved in the famous Pontchartrain Beach amusement grounds), and his interior design business in the Big Easy. The author will be signing his book at Book Soup on Saturday, May 15.
Should we add that Maker's Mark is a host of the evening, and free Manhattans will be pitcher'd about? Yes.
Somehow we've reached the fifth section of this post and we haven't even mentioned his amazing turn on "Mad Men." He plays Sal Romano, a gay man struggling against closed minds in a less-than-accepting age.
Sal, the character we most want to see find true love on the show. Sorry, Don. Sal's our man.
