Do-It-Yourself Fruit Pick Returns to Orcutt Ranch

After a two-year hiatus, the fruit pick is finally returning to Orcutt Ranch.

For one weekend a year in July, the horticultural center -- located in the West Hills area of the San Fernando Valley -- opens its orchards to the public. Do-it-yourself pickers can leave with a citrusy treasure trove of Valencia oranges and white grapefruit.

The event was canceled in 2008 and 2009 due to renovations.

"Visitors will need to bring their own grocery bags and/or medium-size moving boxes to hold their fruit; closed-toe shoes and long pants are recommended to avoid being scratched. The cost is $2 for each average size bag of fruit, $3 for larger bags, and $5 per moving box," according to a news release from the ranch.

The fruit pick runs from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The ranch is located at 23600 Roscoe Blvd. in Canoga Park (map).
