Piñatas, Margaritas, and Cinco Fun

What are you doing May 5?

There's been much excitement over the fact that May 5 lands on a Saturday this year. With that weekend-wonderful fact in mind, where will you be raising a margy, a piñata stick, or your voice in song on Cinco de Mayo?

The festivals and outdoor party scenes are plentiful over the weekend, and the happy news is a few of them extend right into the day *after* Cinco de Mayo. Olvera Street will feature music and entertainment on the plaza and Santa Ana's Calle Cuatro is ready to roll over the weekend.

Los Lobos! At the Greek Theatre! With a whole bunch of special guests, including Mariachi El Bronx! And X! This makes us all exclamation-point-y, which we think is right and good. Saturday, May 5

Cinefamily will be throwing a Cinco party at its Silent Movie Theatre headquarters on Saturday, May 5. A bevy of piñatas will be hung and "Aventurera" and "The Three Caballeros" will screen. Other goodness is set to rain down like a shower of delicious candy treats. The fiesta gets going at 3:30 p.m.

The perfect margarita? Is it sweet or is it tart? Is it on the rocks or is it on the rocks? Oh, that was a trick question; we liked blended, too, blended drink buffs. And how much salt do you add? There's no way to pin down the best beverage in LA, but check out this map o' plenty from Discover Los Angeles: Now that's a lot of margarita places.

Several Santa Monica eateries have the tasty Cinco de Mayo specials going. Did someone say churros? Someone did, right here.
