“Point Break Live!”

A little surfing, a little crime, a little car chasing, a little bit of movie history. We don't know anyone who doesn't have a soft spot for "Point Break," the 1991 action-adventure thriller starring Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze and Gary Busey. It has gone beyond a quotable guilty pleasure to become a work of art that symbolizes a more innocent moment in time.

Not content to let it sit on the Netflix shelf, the clever visionaries behind "Point Break Live!" ride the big wave into The Dragonfly this weekend. We can all agree that some films are well-suited to stage adaptations; some are definitely not. Then there's "Point Break," a story that fits live theater like damp, salty legs inside a Body Glove wetsuit. Lines are delivered with winks, or flatly, or with humorous effect; the drama is waaay dramatic; and the pivotal lead role of Johnny Utah is handed to an audience member each and every night.

We're thinking, to get in the participatory spirit, we'll slather on the Coppertone and come bikini-ed.  Maybe?  Or at least rent the film before hitting the theater. Is that the ultimate double feature, a film and then a stage show based on the film? We think yes.

Now if only someone would create "Point Break the Bakery," or "Point Break in Space"...
