Martin Scorsese talks film and the museum at LACMA on Wednesday, January 20th.

Martin Scorsese received a moving tribute at the 2010 Golden Globes. Now he's paying tribute to museum film programs and those who preserve film.

The legendary director will be stopping by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art to chat with the museum's director Michael Govan on Wednesday, January 20th. Of course, no surprise, prepare yourself, this evening has been sold out for weeks and weeks and weeks. We're pretty sure the last ticket went in mere minutes after the conversation was added to the calendar.

So we hope you secured an early seat, because the conversation is sure to be cineaste-y and scintillating. Making it even more sparkly is the fact that Mr. Scorsese wrote an open letter to Mr. Govan last summer, about LACMA's (formerly) ailing film program. You can revisit it here.

In short, this will not be a look back at the director's fabled career, although we'd be shocked if that wasn't at least part of the night. Rather, it is a look forward, to the future of film's relationship with museums. A vital conversation in the arts.
