"Oh, Where Is the Cat in the Hat?" by Mall will by on display at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra; it's part of the Dr. Seuss tribute exhibit that opens on Saturday, March 3.

It's a given that artists influence other artists. Maybe not directly or in an obvious fashion, but every creative type who has seen the work of another creative type absorbs it, a little, and it can show up in the second person's work.

Then there's Dr. Seuss, who has pretty much majorly influenced every person born after 1950, whether they are an artist or not. The innovator's whimsical world views permeate everything from political commentary to major movies; yep, there's a new "Lorax" in the house, timed perfectly to remember the anniversary of the good doctor's birthday on March 2.

Now over 40 artists have taken brush to canvas to remember Theodor Geisel and his tree-bunchy, Sneetch-surreal world. "Look at This, Look at That: A Tribute to Dr. Seuss" opens at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra on Saturday, March 3.

("A Hat on a Cat" by Ben Newman)

There are many treats within but we like the fully realized worlds that so honestly summon the hues and humor of Dr. Seuss; Ben Newman's take on "The Cat in the Hat" feels modern and fresh, too.

The show will run through March 24. If you want more Seuss on his birthday weekend, check out Cinefamily on Fairfax. The theater is throwing a Seussapalooza! on Saturday, March 3. It's not related to the Gallery Nucleus show, but we're betting fans of one will be fans of the other. And we're all Seuss fans.
