Fellow Angelenos, look not to our friends in New York City with envy and jealousy. All Iago-like in your covetousness, wishing you, too, could enjoy free Shakespeare in a park setting.
We have that goodness here, too, courtesy of the Independent Shakespeare Co., which has set up its courtly camp in the old zoo area of Griffith Park.
"Othello" bowed on Thursday, July 8 and runs through Sunday, August 1 (on Thursdays through Sundays, note). You thought we just randomly threw in a Iago reference? Well. That is something we're wont to do, dole out the random Iago references, but really, isn't Iago everybody's favorite go-to guy when talking about jealousy?
Iago. No respect, but so often cited.
"Much Ado About Nothing" opens on Thursday, August 5.
Early notes from the "Othello" staging include various insects being accidentally ingested by the thespians as well as some park coyotes getting vocal. Outdoor theater! Always unpredictable and forever vibrant. Put "free" on top of that pie and you've got a classic summer dish.
