Sunset Strip Music Festival

They're closing down the boulevard for one reason: serious rocking.

Sunset Boulevard is, without a doubt, one of the most famous streets in the world. Sorry, other streets everywhere; it is true. Once you get a few movies and television shows named after you, and find yourself lined with famous music clubs and notable restaurants, come see us.

So when the thoroughfare gets closed down for several hours on a Saturday, you know it is with good reason, and that reason is likely related to rocking, if the shuttered part happens to be within shouting distance of the Strip. And such is the case with the Sunset Strip Music Festival, which will indeed take over a good chunk of the boulevard -- "good chunk"=Doheny Boulevard to San Vicente Boulevard -- on Saturday, Aug. 18.

The main stages -- there are two -- will be out on the street, and the nearby clubs -- Whisky a Go Go and The Roxy, among them -- will be full of the tunes, too. The festival actually stretches for three days, from Thursday, Aug. 16 through Saturday, Aug. 18, with the main, closed-down street rocking happening on Saturday, and the clubs all a-thumpin' earlier in the fest.

So, who are on the stages over the various days? Marilyn Manson, The Offspring, De La Soul, Steve Aoki, and Bad Religion are all slated for Saturday, Aug. 18, and Quiet Riot is at the Key Club on Aug. 16. A bevy of other bands boasting tons of club cred and hard-edged vibes and Strip-approved sounds will make up the rest of the fest's calendar.

You want to do a little head-bangery? Be on the boulevard on Aug. 18. You want to not get caught up in traffic? Avoid that area, especially between 1 and 10 p.m. on that day.
