The 9th Annual Turkey Trot legs it through Long Beach on Thursday, Nov. 24.

What's your typical Thanksgiving morning plan?

Some people volunteer (and our hats off to them). Others make the rounds, stopping by the homes of various relatives for a little gossip and a glass of wine. Still others are in the kitchen, trying to find that one cranberry jalapeno relish recipe they made in 2002 (we're still looking for that one, too).

But a whole bunch of hearty types hoof it through Belmont Shore. The Turkey Trot celebrates its ninth year on Thursday, Nov. 24, and runners and walkers can expect a few things.

One? Some people shoe dressed as turkeys. What more is there to say about that but right on? Two? It's a benefit; funds will help the Community Action Team with events like Operation Easter Basket and beach clean-up. And speaking of the beach? The third thing to know is you'll see some beach on your trot. Nice for a holiday morning.

The 8 a.m. start is sold out, but the 7 a.m., 9 a.m.. and 10 a.m. slots remain open. There's a kidly Wingding, too, which just a half mile. (That's just after 9 a.m.) Whether you dress like a certain bird or not, figure it is a good day to lend a hand, or a sneaker, to a good cause. And rev up your energy for all the stuffing-making you have to do later in the day.
