It's not whether you win or lose, but how early you arrive for tailgating.

Thursday's national championship pits No. 1 Alabama against second-ranked Texas, but that doesn't exclude anyone not wearing crimson or burnt orange from having a good time in Pasadena.

Starting at 9 a.m., the Rose Bowl and ESPN will host the National Championship Tailgate Party. In the early afternoon -- before things really get rowdy -- the rock bands the Goo Goo Dolls and Switchfoot will perform.

The Crimson Tide and Longhorns. The Rose Bowl and tailgating. Face paint and football. The Goo Goo Dolls and Switchfoot. Some things just go together.

But wait, there's more. The Taco Bell obstacle course allows fans to test their agility. There's also a field goal challenge. When was the last time you challenged someone to a field goal contest?

Once you've thoroughly tested your agility and placekicking skills, tour the Allstate College Football Legacy Museum for a look at how its supposed to be done. Then watch your Facebook friends freak after you upload a picture of yourself with the BCS National Championship trophy.

There will be food and beverages available, some of which will be provided by Pasadena restaurants.

Tickets for the tailgate party are $25 per person, and public parking  lots will open at 6 a.m. Parking is $40 for cars, $200 for RVs, $280 for limousines and $350 for buses.
