Tonight: Things Get Very, Very “Elf”

Things get jingly; also, the Pershing Square show is canceled.

"ELF": We've seen a lot of screenings of this newer seasonal fave around town these past few weeks; tonight's show is at ArcLight Beach Cities. Zooey Deschanel has a pretty voice; she's on the soundtrack. I wonder if anyone else has noticed her pretty voice, too? She should make an album or something. Oh, ho ho ho. 7:30 p.m.

"SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE MARTIANS": And speaking of cheeky Christmas wonder and outlandish costumes. This Maverick Theater production is just a smidge ahead of wrapping up. But two things to note: One, a few festive laughs about now can do a world of good, or at least pretty good. And two, this is the half-decade anniversary for the show. Clearly, people like. A lot. In Fullerton.

ROCK AROUND THE RINK: It's the second week for the free concert series at Pershing Square -- they're called "Rock Around the Rink," and if you guessed there's a big slab of skateable ice in the area, you'd be correct -- and the Spazmatics are up tonight. Which means things are going to get bright and high-energy, fast. Also "free," too; the concert is gratis, though skating is additional. 8-10 p.m. (Note: No word on cancellation on the Pershing Square site, but if you want to attend we'd check back here.) (UPDATE: This show has been confirmed as canceled due to rain; it may be rescheduled, so check back at the Pershing Square site.)
