We Care Wednesdays

Give back, and get free Fair admission.

Of all the sparkling, shining, twirling objects that catch one's eye at a county fair, the thing that we keep coming back to again and again in 2010 is the Orange County Fair's We Care Wednesdays push.

In short: OC Fair hosts a drive of some sort each Wednesday of the Fair's run; people who participate get into the fair for free. The next one, up on Wednesday, Aug. 4, is the Clothing Drive. Show with five wearables ("gently used," of course), donate them, and get into the grounds gratis. Plus you get a ride to boot.

The Wednesday after -- the last Wednesday of the OC Fair, we'll add -- focuses on school supplies. Is it already that time? It is already that time. If you donate a new item that's $3+, you're in.

There are details, like hours -- noon to 6 p.m., the site says -- and other fairly know-thises. If you haven't been to Costa Mesa's mega-a-thon yet, we recommend a Wednesday. Good for you, your pocketbook, the community at large.

Will it remove all traces of guilt as you down your second fried candy bar? That is up to you to decide.
