Weekend: Derby Championships (Take 2)

The big bout was delayed by the storm; now, the competition is on.

DERBY DOLLS: You might have heard that the roller derby league's big championship match was postponed due to the wind-related power outage last weekend. Now the showdown is back on, Sirens will skate against The Swarm, and there's a lesson in this somewhere. We think the lesson is, in the end, don't mess with the Derby Dolls, because they'll always find a way to come back from a setback. Saturday, Dec. 10

CHRISTMAS TREE LANE OPENS: And, in yet another wind-related tale of coming back, the famous deodars of Altadena are set to twinkle this year, even after some branch losses and stormy hits. The party is on Saturday, Dec. 10, and the lights'll be on through early January (on select evenings). Join the bash and support the volunteers who helped clean up the aftermath.

MARINA DEL REY BOAT PARADE: The glittery vessels are taking to the waters up and down the coast. One of the first out the proverbial gate is Marina del Rey. What you'll see there: captains dressed as Santa, strings of lights up masts, bundled up landlubbers having a good time. Saturday, Dec. 10

ARTISANAL LA: "Buy local" has certainly been a rallying cry for a few years. And the push seems to be bigger than ever this holiday season. If you want to support LA bakers and food-makers, and you like to sample your way through an eat fair, get to Pasadena and have a least five bucks on hand to get in (more if you want to take goodies home). Date's Sunday, Dec. 11

INTERNATIONAL WINTER FESTIVAL: It's a free, afternoon-long celebration of arts, dance, and our Sister Cities at Farmers Market. Arrive at the Market's Plaza around noon, stay through 4 p.m., and see taiko drummers and Bollywood dancers and more. Plus, have you seen The Grove's tree yet? Huge. Ginormous. Ginormously huge. Saturday, Dec. 10
