Weekend: Father's Day Go-Outs

Where will you celebrate your favorite guy?

Happy Father's Day Weekend: Every dad, being an individual, has his own preferences when it comes to his big June holiday. If you're still stumped for plans, and he keeps waving you off and asking you to not make a huge deal out of it, we'd recommend the Rodeo Drive Concours D'Elegance (free admiring of cool cars), a Gold Rush-themed day trip, or a BBQ train ride. Note that some things happen on Saturday, not Sunday, so check out all.

LA Film Festival: It's the opening weekend for the cineparty. The downtown to-do will include starry panels, poolside chats, and a few movies. ("Few"=200 or so features, shorts, docs and such.) LA Live is the hub, but several nearby places'll be hosting various events. Thursday, June 16 through Sunday, June 26

Pasadena Chalk Festival: The art is on the ground and your money is in your pocket with this one. Translation? Sidewalks play the canvas at Paseo Colorado, and entry is free. It's happening on Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 19. We'll be hanging around the 3D-type artworks.

Beastly Ball: The annual LA Zoo fundraiser turns 41 in 2011, and it is once again doing things up in lavish, love-on-the-animals style. Cocktails and animal encounters are part of the night, as is an auction hosted by Fritz Coleman. Saturday, June 18

Hollywood Bowl Opening Night: Oscar winners Helen Mirren and Hilary Swank will help get the season going, as will Gloria Estefan, Andy Garcia, and Harry Connick, Jr. Cirque du Soleil is offering an "IRIS" sneak peek as well (they'll be just down the hill at the Kodak in about a month's time). Hollywood-y indeed. Friday, June 17
