Weekend: Orange County Fair Opens

The Costa Mesa-based fried-food-and-fun-a-thon opens.

ORANGE COUNTY FAIR OPENS: Oh sweet corn if we aren't in the thick of fair season. The question is not do we eat the deep-fried avocado at the start of our visit or at the end, but do we eat one in the middle, too? July 16-Aug. 15

DISNEYLAND TURNS 55: It's easy to remember this birthday; after all, the park opened in 1955. They're doing it up with a special Town Square dedication and anniversary Mickey ears that will only be available that day. Saturday, July 17

LABYRINTH OF JARETH BALL: Dressing up in your fairy best and parading about the mysterious Park Plaza? Yes, please. This annual gathering of goblinry is two nights. Got to fit every last goblin in, after all. Friday, July 16 and Saturday, July 17

"BRING IT ON" 10TH ANNIVERSARY: In the heated battle to be top cheerleading movie of all time, "Bring It On" keeps bringing it. The New Bev is saluting the set-in-SoCal flick's decade birthday at midnight on Saturday, July 17. Some cast is set to show.

SANTA BARBARA FRENCH FESTIVAL: The c'est-bon-iest party in all the land. Poodles parading, wines on the pour, and all sorts of Gallic niceties. At Oak Park on Saturday, July 17 and Sunday, July 18.
