Weekend: Port of LA Lobster Festival

Bibs. Butter. And John Doe and Exene, too.

PORT OF LOS ANGELES LOBSTER FESTIVAL: This crustacean-o-rama turned 10 last year, but it sure does seem like it has been around for a lot longer. Maybe that's because it attracts great musicians making great music (John Doe and Exene this year), and bevies of bib-wearers that don't mind getting butter everywhere butter can possibly get. Friday, Sept. 17 through Sunday, Sept. 19

CALIFORNIA BEER FESTIVAL: Maybe one year these festivals will be claw-by-mug-handle, but for now, the Lobster's in Pedro, and this brew-up is in Ventura. And it's on Saturday, Sept. 18. There be a remarkable number of labels there, too. $40 gets you in and tasting.

TICKET TO THE TWENTIES: Note that "Prohibition will be enforced" and that fringe-y flapper wear is the order of the day(s) at this weekend-long hoop-di-do at the Homestead Museum. Dean Mora, Maxwell DeMille, and Janet Klein, LA's own trio of '20s-era time travelers, are set to appear. Saturday, Sept. 18 and Sunday, Sept. 19

STRUT YOUR MUTT: It's a Sunday morning walk in Santa Monica with an important aim: helping animals needing homes. Your dog is invited along for the stroll. Best Friends Animals Society is behind the pet-sweet perambulation. Sept. 19

SURF CITY SURF DOG: While pups are walking to help other pups up here, down in Huntington Beach they'll be taking to the waves to raise money for various OC rescues and organizations. Cameras. Very important here. Sept. 19
