West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval Expects to Set Attendance Record

Grab your costume and leave the kids at home

West Hollywood is set to host one of the largest Halloween parties in the world Monday night, with as many as half a million revelers expected to descend on the area, according to organizers.

Unlike the G-rated trick-or-treat nights around the Southland, this party -- now in its 23rd year -- is no place for children. The street fair is home to risqué costumes and booze-soaked antics.

Road closures are expected to start around noon, and could affect traffic into the evening commute and beyond. Santa Monica Boulevard will be shut down between Doheny Drive and La Cienega Boulevard, with north-south streets in the area also shut down.

The LA County Sheriff's Department tells NBC4 that it expects upwards of 300,000 people to participate in this year's celebration.

The roads will be reopened 6 a.m. Tuesday.

This year's theme is "Become Your Other," with attendees "encouraged to let their alter egos come out to play for the evening," according to the city.

The party begins at 6 p.m. and will last into early morning hours.
