A CHRISTMAS CLASSIC, WITH COMEDY: Fake Radio, that vintage-loving group of old-timey enthusiasts, once again stages an old radio play with today's fresh comedy talent. That fresh comedy talent for this month's radio play -- the always heart-warming "It's a Wonderful Life" -- includes Tom Kenny, the voice of "SpongeBob Squarepants" (and famed for his frenetic, play-by-play hosting of Lucha Va Voom), and comedian Mindy Sterling. Sunday, December 14, 8PM. $15 general. Bang! Comedy Theatre, 457 N. Fairfax, Los Angeles. 877-460-9774.
SHOPPING PARTY ON MELROSE: We love it when a group of stores in the same stretch of a particular street get together and throw a holiday-themed bash. Melrose Heights takes a turn with a late afternoon/evening devoted to discounts (think Jonathon Adler and Xin) and nibbles that are cheesy and fortifying. Wine, too? Yes. Yum. Melrose Heights Holiday Block Party, Sunday, December 14, 5-9PM. Melrose Avenue, between Laurel and Sweetzer, Los Angeles.
MERRY TUBA CHRISTMAS: Huell Howser devoted a show to it. Events just like it are sweeping the nation. And each year, the buzz builds. What's the festive fuss? Hundreds -- that's correct, hundreds -- of tuba players descend upon the Alex Theatre, instruments in hand, to play cheery songs of the season. It's a spectacular sound, brassy and big, and must be experienced at least once. Did we mention it is also free? Seating is first come, first served. Sunday, December 14, 7PM. Alex Theatre, 216 N. Brand Boulevard, Glendale. 818-243-ALEX
