Quincy Jones and Geoff Boucher of the LA Times chat at Borders Westwood, on Thursday, February 12.

QUINCY JONES: There've been plenty of headlines in recent days about the great composer possibly taking an arts-focused role in the new Obama administration. No surprise there: the artist has done hundreds -- thousands? -- of amazing, applause-worthy things over his multi-decade career, including writing "Soul Bossa Nova," one of the swingingest songs ever. He's signing his new book, and chatting with Geoff Boucher of the LA Times, at Borders Westwood. Thursday, February 12, 7PM. 1360 Westwood Boulevard, Los Angeles. 310-475-3444

LL COOL J WITH IZZO: The rapper, writer and lauded actor may be appearing on both the large and small screen a lot (think "Halloween: H20" and "30 Rock") but he's still making the music that first garnered him fame. Do the ladies love cool James? Yes, they do. Thursday, February 12, 7PM. House of BluesAnaheim, 1530 Disneyland Drive, Anaheim. 714-778-2583

"Electric Dreams": It's marking its 25th anniversary this year, but this cult favorite has been hard to find on VHS or DVD. In other words, seeing it on the big screen is definitely treat-ville. We like that it is about a cheeky, talk-back computer that takes over a hapless man's (love) life. Also playing: "Harold & Maude" with the wonderful Bud Cort. Thursday, February 12. (Note: "Harold & Maude" is at 7:30PM, "Electric Dreams" at 9:20PM). New Beverly Cinema, 7165 W. Beverly Boulevard, Los Angeles. 323-938-4038
