Ben Taylor's at The Troubadour on Wednesday, February 25.

BEN TAYLOR: Sometimes, when talking about a performer with famous parents, we get the urge to, if not skip over that part, first put the spotlight on the younger artist, and then get to the parentals after. And Mr. Taylor indeed deserves top billing in this description; his strummy sound is beachy, breezy, funky. Like, dig those toes in the sand, throw another log on the fire, idly watch the waves while wrapped up in an old, scratchy-soft blanket. Oh, and those parents? Mom's Carly Simon, and dad is James Taylor. And, on occasion, the talented singer-songwriter will rock with his total-goddess-of-a-mother, which makes us like him even more... ROBYN HITCHCOCK: Oh, fighting the urge to use "underground following" and "years of doing his own thing" here, but losing. Okay. This Brit balladeer fashions peppy psychedelic music for modern times that just sounds like him. In fact, no one but no one is quite doing his thing. Maybe that's why he did tunes for (and appeared in) the indie hit "Rachel Getting Married," and that's why he's still major in our books, and a lot of other books all over the world, too. He's at Amoeba which means -- give it up! -- free show. Wednesday, February 25, 7PM. 6400 Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood
