What You're Doing Tonight: Jan. 29

Be the Toast of the Breeders’ Cup
Sun-splashed punk with a dash of reggae and chilled-out vibes? It's Pepper, and they're shaking it at Club Nokia on Thursday, January 29.

WANT SOME PEPPER WITH THAT? Hailing from Hawaii, this reggae/punk/rock outfit has a recent album out which probably has the most spectacular title of last year and maybe even this year, too (we realize it is still January, but we're taking a stance): "Pink Crustaceans and Good Vibrations." Can you feel the vibe-y, laid-back rhythms of a nearly empty stretch of beach near Kona in the very words? Yeah, we can. Catch Pepper on Thursday, January 29 at Club Nokia, 800 W. Olympic Boulevard, Los Angeles.

YARD DOGS ROAD SHOW: Let's tip our top hat to contemporary takes on vaudeville, and to the talented, adventurous, bold-as-(tarnished)-brass Yard Dogs, who have put their own surreal, strange spin on eye-popping feats like sword swallowing and the eating of fire. Bon appetit! And just when we've been wishing we had the clams for a quick trip to Coney Island this year, a slice of the old-timey boardwalk lands right on the Miracle Mile. No doubt about it, this troupe definitely has some bite to their bark. Thursday, January 29, 8PM. $18. El Rey Theatre, 5515 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles.
