Your job: Decide to get out of town and fast. Our job: Help you find where you're headed. This week, NBCLA's Worth the Drive takes us to...
The Napa Valley Mustard Festival: If you're picturing a card table holding open jars of condiments, that isn't quite it. Rather, picture the mustard fields of wine country, all hued-out with yellow blossoms that can only be described, as, well. The color of mustard.
The two-month party: While many other places wait for summer to have their mega food-and-vino celebrations, Napa gets it going every year in late January, the better to coincide with all those picturesque blooms.
2010 dates: Saturday, January 30th through Saturday, March 27th
To-dos: So many, it is best to go browse 'em all yourself. If you like art, and cooking competitions, and photography contests, and sumptuous, wear-your-gussiest-gown suppers. And if you like Napa. We all like Napa. A storybook land, for grown-ups, that's real, in our own state.
Mustard: We're not saying you won't see the jarred and spreadable wonder here and there. Because. Have you been in any gourmet store or winery shop in the area? Mustards with capers, mustards with cabernet, mustards with capers dipped in cabernet. You could almost spread all of Napa on a piece of nice country bread, it is so condimentable.
