Looking to put a little zip back in your life?
Try this: Put on a hardhat, slip into a safety harness and hang on for the ride of a lifetime as you zip along a steel cable up to 300 feet above the ground.
Sound good? Starting April 14, you thrill-seekers can head out to Catalina Island and take a little ride on the Catalina Zipline Eco-Tour.
The zipline will send daring visitors zinging across the landscape on a trolley connected to overhead cables, crossing cactus-filled canyons at speeds up to 40 miles per hour. Riders will get a hawk-eye's view of the island on the 90-minute tour.
The ride is broken into five segments that will take up to 300 riders a day from Hogsback Ridge nearly 3,700 feet to the beach below, where the island’s restaurants and shops await to soothe jangled nerves.
The attraction is an effort to make Catalina a more prominent tourist destination by drawing younger tourists to the island with a little adventure. Island tourism has been suffering of late, with a four-hour bus tour of wilderness areas closed earlier this year due to sagging ticket sales.
Ready? OK, all together now (in a high-pitched squeal): Wheeeee!
