Zydeco, Beer, Rides = Culver Tradition

Each one of our 103 separate communities here in LA -- or is it 109? Maybe 257? -- needs its own, mondo, summertime celebration. If you've wanted to start one for your neck of our woods, look no further than Culver City for your inspiration.

After all, Culver City's annual hot-weather hoedown -- that would be Fiesta La Ballona -- has been painting butterflies on faces and twisting balloon animals and pouring the brews now for, oh. Nearly 60 years? They've got it down.

And you can get down to Culver for Fiesta starting on Friday, August 28th. The admission and watching-of-bands and dancing are all free; the rides, eats, and other goodies are not. Music goes for most of the day on Saturday, August 29th and Sunday, August 30; Lisa Haley & The Zydecats are on Sunday afternoon, but look for jazz jam bands, swing music, salsa dancing and '80s-flavored tunes throughout the weekend.

Grownups: There's a food, beer & wine garden. Not grownups: There is a carnival, and petting zoo, and other tot-nice to-dos.

The party starts Friday night at 6PM; Saturday and Sunday are pretty full days, but check the whole schedule before making for Veteran's Park.
