Father's Day Free: Concours D'Elegance

The annual Rodeo Drive display'll include a caboodle of classy and rare cars.

Rodeo Drive is, without quibble or fuss, one of our region's best-known thoroughfares. It's a stretch of road that's more than earned the right to be storied, and, of course, if you were to say it is also store-ied, you would not be incorrect.

For when many people think of luxury shopping, they often think of those few glittery blocks that pass through the posh center of the Golden Triangle. But Rodeo Drive isn't just about its swanky merchandise and elegantly attired shop windows; if you're a holiday visitor, you might be picturing those Baccarat crystal chandeliers hanging above the road below, and if it is Father's Day?

Oh goodness. Then it is all about gleaming, tony, magazine-ready cars.

Cars that arrive in Beverly Hills, along with their owners, to play a part at the annual Rodeo Drive Concours D'Elegance, a free-to-visit Father's Day tradition that draws thousands of fender fans and dashboard devotees to the 400 block of Rodeo Drive.

The 24th annual Concours D'Elegance will take place on Sunday, June 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and while there is no theme in 2017, as in years gone by — remember the Learjet that visited the event in 2013, as part of the company's big 50th? — you can count on spying a wealth of pricey, well-tended-to automobiles representing a plethora of award-winning makers.

Bruce Meyer, the founding chairman of the Petersen Automotive Museum, is the show chairman, but there's more Petersen cachet to expect: "Petersen Museum Checkered Flag members are also among the attendees making this one of the most anticipated car shows of the year," says a representative.

You can bet you'll see some suh-weet wheels, in short.

Also notable: A VR experience with a Jay Leno car is new at the Concours D'Elegance in 2017 — you'll get to "ride along" in a 1954 Jaguar XK120 convertible as part of the reality experience, whichis presented by CNBC's "Jay Leno's Garage" — and a booth from the Beverly Hills Police Foundation will help support the foundation's programs through the sale of merchandise.

It's a tradition for those celebrating the family-nice occasion, for auto buffs, and for anyone looking for a beautiful sunshiny day out, one that's especially sunshiny due to all of that just-polished gleam and sparkle coming off the cool cars.
