National Margarita Day? If you observe the salt-rimmed celebration, you likely have Feb. 22 marked on your calendar.
National Salt Day? That's said to fall in May, on the 17th. As for National Lime Day? You can find a National Key Lime Pie Day, which isn't quite the same thing.
But there is an important component still to add to that list, and it involves one of the most potent and kapow-packing spirits around. It's tequila, of course, the heart of a margarita and the legendary liquid that limes and salt so easily and appetizingly complement.
There is a National Tequila Day on the foods/drinks calendar, and it happens to occur on July 24, each and every year. So whether you're headed out for a clink-the-glasses shot with a pal or a pitcher of margaritas, line up your ride home and remember that a basket of tortilla chips, tequila's BFF, is never, ever a bad idea.
Trejo's Cantina is observing the day with $3 OG margaritas, as well as a double margarita for five bucks. You can also order a Trejo's Cerveza + tequila shot (El Jimador Tequila) for a fiver. Where to go? Find locations in Hollywood, Woodland Hills, and Pasadena.
And at your local Acapulco Restaurant y Cantina? Look for two dollars off Patrón shots and drinks on July 24.
The Scene
Want to find new things to do in Los Angeles? The Scene's lifestyle stories have you covered. Here's your go-to source on where the fun is across SoCal and for the weekend.
Of course, if you're not looking for a deal on your drink, but simply a spectacular, well-made, worth-talking-about sip, Los Angeles is home to plenty of tequila titans. Think of the El Palomar Margarita at Cha Cha's Latin Kitchen (hibiscus tea adds oomph), the John Wayne at Birds and Bees (it boasts an aged tawny port in addition to tequila), or Ranch Water at Salazar in Frogtown.
Where will you be salting it up and/or adding a squeeze of lime on July 24?
The cantina down the street from your place surely makes a memorable margarita, if you're looking for a festive way to celebrate this tequila-scented Hump Day.
