Downtown LA bars and restaurants offer goodies for designated drivers

If it’s your turn to be the designated driver, there may be perks coming your way. That is, besides stuffing yourself with late-night fast food and waking up without a hangover.

Starting next week, a new program will have you thankful you chose water over wine. At any of 40 or so participating bars and restaurants, you could get free stuff. Telling the bartender that you are a DD could earn you a free non-alcoholic drink, free cover, coupons for future visits or other free stuff.

Free stuff abounds. At Royal Clayton's English Pub DDs can get high tea service, a free game of pool at Seven Grand Whiskey Bar, free dessert at Morton's Steakhouse and score some Belgian fries at sausage grill Wurstkuche.

Launching on Oct. 14, just in time for the monthly Downtown Art Walk, the program was put together by the downtown Los Angeles chapter of RADD, the Entertainment Industry's Voice for Road Safety, aims to help keep drunk drivers off the road. The inaugural event is being celebrated at many of the participating establishments. The Edison is even unveiling a new virgin cocktail menu.

RADD even has a map plotted with the participating establishments for your perusal.
