EaterWire: Discounts at Angeli Caffe, Bashan's Anniversary, Get Your ServSafe Card Like the Pros

MELROSE: THis is why Evan Kleiman, owner of Angeli Caffe and host of KCRW's "Good Food," is like a godmother to the LA FOod Scene. From the restaurant's newsletter: "Scary times call for compassion and generosity. Until we get a better handle on our economy I'm offering a 15% discount on in-house, take out and delivery Tuesday through Thursday, Friday lunch and Sunday. Discount does not include beer, wine, special dinners and events. It cannot be combined with any other discounts. Discount not available on Friday or Saturday nights. Please remember to tip on the original amount. Servers are struggling too. And please continue to support your locally owned restaurants and farmers markets. We can only get through this if we help each other out." Amen, sister. [EaterWire]

MONTROSE: And another restaurant celebrating its first anniversay, which is still a total milestone these days, Bashan will have a special five-course tasting menu from Oct 7-31. Things like yellowtail sashimi with cucumber-sented agua chili, seared ling cod, roasted quail with date risotto, NY steak with corn puree, and peanunt butter sticky toffee cake. $80 per person, $100 with wine pairings. PASADENA: Want to know first-hand what it takes to get an "A" letter grade? The California School of Culinary Arts in Pasadena will have a ServSave course for "serious home cooks and industry professionals" on October 18 and November 15. ServSave is required by the state of California for---get this---"at least one employee at every food service establishment." Maybe we're crazy to think everyone in a food service establishment should have to go through this training, but, um, everyone should have this training. The class is open to anyone 18 years and older, goes from 8am to 4pm, and costs $150. (CSCA East Campus, 521 East Green St). [EaterWire]For more stories from Eater LA, go to la.eater.com.
