MID-CITY—NPR checks in at the controversial El Coyote, and shares how much business has suffered since that whole situation back in November: "Business dipped about 30 percent at the height of the protest, and it still hasn't returned to pre-protest levels. Several members of the restaurant's staff — including many of its gay employees — have seen their hours cut back in response." [NPR]

GLENDALE—Just when we were ready to upgrade the temporary closure at Patrick's Cafe from curious hiatus due to plumbing problems to permanent shutter, the cash-only diner reopened today and says it will be open per normal going forward. You can breathe easily. [EaterWire]

TELEVISION—Coming on the heels of Top Chef, next week will see the premiere of Marco Pierre White's Chopping Block on NBC, and several local chefs will be competing. One team consists of 50-something "once married and former hippies" Lisa Stalvey and Michael Anapol. The latter was once head chef at Spago and is currently executive chef at a Malibu catering company; the former is a server at Abuelitas in Topanga Canyon. And there are also a pair of sisters/macrobiotic chefs representing the LA stereotype side of things. [NBC]
