SHERMAN OAKS— Chef and partner Gary Menes is leaving Palate Food + Wine in Glendale to open Marche, a new Sherman Oaks restaurant that will replace Max, details Food GPS. The restaurant will serve market-driven fare and hopes to soft open by August 24. [Food GPS]

HOLLYWOOD— Is sake more closely related to beer or wine? Find out all that and more at next weekend's Sake Festival hosted by the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel. On August 15 the "Sake Samurai" Timothy Sullivan will teach an you how to polish your own rice...just kidding...but he will give you a 20-minute overview of Japan's most popular beverage.
