Good Eats Pasadena Beckons Foodies

Local Crown City vendors turn and serve yummy bites near the Playhouse.

Pity the weekend following Labor Day. While there's typically a rush to bid the summer adieu, fewer people rush to say hello to autumn, or at least the beginnings of September, a time typically associated with work and school and buckling down and being a bit more serious.

We're for that, but the weather is still fine -- more than fine, a tad warm -- and living it up on a Saturday is still the desire of many. Especially when there's free admission to a get-together where a lot of local food vendors will turn out. And especially when it is all put together and overseen by a local institution like the Pasadena Playhouse.

Good Eats Pasadena: Food, Art & Music is what we're talking about, and the Playhouse-close celebration is set to take over Madison between Colorado and Green on Saturday, Sept. 8. There will indeed be tunes and extracurricular happenings during the 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. party, but the chance to try Pasadena-specific bites'll be a big draw.

What cooks and cafes are set to show? A partial list includes Peddlers Creamery, the Rustic Loaf, Kou Kou Greek Fare, Dalvina Cookies, and a couple of dozen more. The food will cost, of course, though nothing is expected to be priced over ten bucks, and much will be much less.

Not related to Good Eats, specifically, but certainly to the host and the location: The 2012-2013 Pasadena Playhouse season kicks off on Tuesday, Sept. 11 with "Under My Skin."

Perhaps the community food fest will become the weekend-before harbinger of the Playhouse's new season? We're all about early September traditions, a time of year that could use a little extra love.
