Los Angeles Food & Wine Festival

The mondo-named chefs are out and about and the eatin' is fine.

The fact is that everyone has a tendency to raid the ol' hyperbole trunk now and then -- you know the place where you keep all of your overwrought, overexcited descriptions that you use whenever you're telling friends about things -- but we try to keep away from our own, unless necessary.

The Los Angeles Food & Wine Festival, however, means we must visit that particular trunk. The three-day party is one of the most starry of our city's annual food events, period. It attracts some of the biggest chefs, period. Few other events allow aspiring culinaires to hobnob with their favorite cookbook authors and restaurant visionaries, period. It's hyperbole all around, but it works.

The dates of this year's festival are Thursday, Aug. 9 through Saturday, Aug. 11.

Who's on board? Wolfgang Puck'll be hither and thither. Cheese expert Laura Werlin will be talking about creamy topics. Andrew Zimmern is part of the mix as is Ming Tsai, Guy Fieri, and Giada de Laurentiis.

As for events? Swine & Wine is on the calendar, a Festa Italiana with Ms. de Laurentiis, a Champagne & caviar happening at Montage Beverly Hills, and a whole caboodle of cooking demos.

Tickets run the gamut so pick your can't-miss thing or two and put the focus there. Oh, and if you're wondering if the name "Food & Wine" has anything to do with the long-running publication of the same name, wonder no longer; they're behind the deliciousness.
