Free-to-See Vintage Autos Go Downtown Burbank

The Downtown Burbank Car Classic returns with dozens of shiny, look-closer machines.

What to Know

  • Saturday, Aug. 4
  • 150+ cars
  • 3 to 9 p.m.

If you're in a semi-obsessed Route 66 frame of mind these days, we get it.

After all, it is summertime, the let-loose window for road-tripping, and, on top of that fab fact? The Los Angeles County Fair, which opens on the final day of August 2018, is rocking a Route 66 theme for 2018.

This all can lead to many of us longing to hit the road. We long to slide behind an over-sized steering wheel and enjoy some AM radio, some cow sightings, and some smooth riding on lengthy ribbons of asphalt.

The Downtown Burbank Car Classic gets our longing, but, more than that, it's an event that's always in a road-tripping state of mind. For it's all about the dream machines of yore, and maybe of not so yore ago, the kind of automobiles that make Point-A-ing to Point-B-ing an absolute pleasure.

Also an absolute pleasure? This chrome-tastic happening is free.

Over 150 cars are expected at the Saturday, Aug. 4 gathering, so you'll want to make the most of the six hours it is on: 3 to 9 p.m. is your window, so arrive in a timely manner, in the timely way you might set out for a good stretch of driving.

Some famous movie cars will also go on shiny display, at the Red Car Expo, including a number of vehicles from "The Fast and the Furious" films.

Custom cars, nifty'd-up cars, and all sorts of engine-sporting dazzlers shall also be in the line-up, in addition to an array of traditional gems from decades ago.

Speaking of decades ago, DJs will spin songs from years gone by, if that further gets you into the vroom-vroom, classic wheels-a-turnin' groove.

Also groove, or rather groovy: Vendors purveying in all sorts of auto-related items will be in the area, and Burbank eateries and shops will be open, too, for strolling, when you're not strolling and stopping by the classic cars.
