Halloween's Early: ScareLA Pre-Sale

The prep-for-October convention, now an August staple, is revving up (ghoulishly).

Though we stand on the cusp of another April Fool's Day, an occasion that could accurately be said to have a cousin in the high-jinks-y nature of Halloween, what we're about to say is no joke.

The spookiest day of the year is making its wicked way into the Southern California springtime, via a pre-sale event that's sure to send tickets flying into the pockets of Halloween fans, flying like an enchanted broomstick caught in a maelstrom.

It's ScareLA we're moaning over, merrily, that August affair that's all about Halloween preparation, in all the ways. Are costume ideas plentiful at the colossal convention? Eek! (That means "yes.") Are make-up and wig concepts on full display? Grrr. (Also a "yes.") Are there loads of pros on hand who know about yard haunts and making a haunted house in one's own garage? Rattle rattle. (That is a big ol' "definitely.")

The convention, which will return to the Pasadena Convention Center on Saturday, Aug. 7 and Sunday, Aug. 8, recently announced a 50%-off pre-sale on general admission tickets. So if you know you're going to go, wouldn't miss it, have to be there, and so forth, this might be your time to buy.

As for what's ahead for 2016? While specifics will roll out, like so many pumpkins tumbling off a wagon, in the months ahead, plan on browsing the wares and offerings of "over 200 scare vendors, makers, artists..." as well as on-site haunted attractions, complete with effects and actors.

Classes, presentations, and how-tos are also a huge part of the horror-themed happenings, as part-time haunt creators learn how to turn the fronts of their abodes into eerie scenes.

And as for the "LA" in the name of this Halloween dream of an event, which had its beginning downtown at The Reef in 2013? There's a strong local vibe to the movie-famous horror honchos, TV-employed prosthetic experts, and incredibly skilled home enthusiasts who show to display, teach, and learn.

April Fool's Day may be nigh, but look ahead to autumn, and its semi-official start, at least where SoCal Halloween fans are concerned. Halloween kicks off not with the first day of fall 'round Los Angeles, but rather when ScareLA officially haunts the first part of August.
