Otherworldly spaces, the kind of ethereal interiors that flicker with fantasy, color, joy, and big ideas?
The road map to finding such a place isn't easily found. Movies, television shows, and books all tell us that we have to memorize the magic words, or the correct spell, or know where to find the secret different-dimensional doorway that will take us there.
But such a fabled, can't-be-real interdimensional doorway is about to open, on Sept. 1, 2017, and you don't even need a potion or a fairy aunt to enter it. Rather, it shall require $25 and you being on top of getting a ticket before all the tickets fly away like so many leaves on an enchanted wind.
It's the much-buzzed-about "Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors" exhibit at The Broad we speak of, and if you know the artist's "Infinity Mirrored Room — The Souls of Millions Light Years Away 2013," which is on view at the downtown museum, then you know that "otherworldly dimension" maybe doesn't even go far enough to describe her spectacular, I-want-to-live-there spaces.
"Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors," which will include six of the artist's rooms, including "Infinity Mirrored Room," will be on view at The Broad from Saturday, Oct. 21 through Monday, Jan. 1.
The advanced ticket on-sale date, and time, is Friday, Sept. 1 at noon local time. The reason we italicized "time" there is because this exhibit will absolutely sell out, no quibbles, arguments, or hemming/hawing.
In other words, simply thinking you might check for a ticket at some point on Sept. 1 won't do, if you really want to enter these fantastical portals; you'll need to be on top of the on-sale time as well as date.

Want to find new things to do in Los Angeles? The Scene's lifestyle stories have you covered. Here's your go-to source on where the fun is across SoCal and for the weekend.
Though, do note: The Broad will hold onto a select number of stand-by tickets for the exhibit each day of its 10-week run. Thus you'll have your chance if you miss that advanced ticket, though your second opportunity comes with some serious queue time.
But isn't entering kaleidoscopic spaces, rooms from another planet, worth it? Certainly. And isn't the chance to see the traveling exhibition's only California stop also worth it? Concurred.
The exhibit, which was organized by the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C., includes "Infinity Mirrors—Phalli's Field (Floor Show)," described as "a dense and dizzying field of hundreds of red-spotted phallic tubers in a room lined with mirrors."
And "Dots Obsession—Love Transformed Into Dots"? You can guess that polka dots dominate, and how (and wow). Other rooms on view will include inflatables, LED elements, and other details that lend a spectacular harmony to the whole.
More pieces from Ms. Kusama, including over 60 paintings, sculptures, and more, will also be on display. And do keep in mind that while "Infinity Mirrored Room — The Souls of Millions Light Years Away 2013" is currently on view for free at The Broad, after Oct. 21 it will be a part of the larger exhibit, and ticketed.
Speaking of tickets, we already mentioned the Sept. 1 on-sale date, with the on-sale time of noon, yes? We did? May we mention it again? We may? Good. For while it is easy to become dazzled by Ms. Kusama's twirly-of-eye, hue-huge spaces, we shouldn't be so pre-dazzled that we forget to order that all-important ticket to what's sure to be a sold-out exhibit.
