  • Aug. 23-25, 2019

Planning a visit to a Disney theme park?

Let's be real.

You're not going to start picturing your itinerary on the morning of your visit, generally. Rather, you'll have the brochures out, and web sites up, weeks or even months ahead of when you actually stroll through the entrance gate.

Planning a visit to D23 Expo, the castle-huge Disney fan convention that returns to Anaheim Convention Center every other year?

Again, hear us out.

You're not going to begin asking your Pluto-loving pals if they want to go after the convention has already opened, most likely.

Rather, you'll be sewing your Elsa-inspired gown six months ahead of the expo's opening date, or sketching your Black Panther costume, and lining up the panels you want to see, and making your Anaheim arrangements.

So best start arranging, for tickets are now on sale for the 2019 D23 Expo, which delivers the fairy dust and fantastical Disney experiences to the fans from Aug. 23 through 25, 2019.

Tickets, as is tradition with this colossal convention, go on sale a year in advance, with discounts offered to members of D23, The Official Disney Fan Club.

Which means, yes: Aug. 23, 2018 is go-time for ticket-buying time, Mouseketeers.

Some highlights of the 2019 D23 Expo?

The convention hall-filling festival coincides, spookily, with the 50th anniversary of the Haunted Mansion, so you can bet there'll be plenty of ghosty doings.

One phantom-y fun thing? The Design Challenge will be themed to the Haunted Mansion, which means that "(f)ans are encouraged to create ghoulishly delightful designs, from paintings and drawings to sculptures and models, inspired by the beloved attractions and its 999 happy haunts."

Other haps related to The Happiest Place on Earth and the whole Disneyverse?

The popular Mousequerade costume contest will be back, as well as a fresh exhibit from the Walt Disney Archives, a daily parade, and a place to meet Disney talent.

A one-day ticket for a non-D23 Gold Member? It's $89.

There are other ticket options, too, and lots to know for this biennial happening, which can seem as vast as the space inside Space Mountain and the upper reaches of the Matterhorn, all rolled into one.
