Mohawk Bend: Piece of the Pie Fundraiser

Swing by for the tasty August creation, which helps lit-loving organization 826LA (and was created by the kids there, too).

If it is Friday, it is pizza time, but, of course, you're 100% allowed under the strict rules and traditions of pizza consumption, and even encouraged, to swap out "Friday" for any other day or time of the week you like.

For Pizza Monday, and Pizza Thursday, and Pizza Noon, and Pizza Just After Class work just as well.

And does Pizza August jingle your particular chime? How about fundraising for local literary institution 826LA? Then pencil Mohawk Bend into your phone — or key it into your nearest piece of paper — or, you get the gist: Take note that an 826LA-themed pizza is available all month long at the Echo Park restaurant.

The story behind the story-filled organization's take on the cheese-melty dish?

Let's begin at the beginning: Mohawk Bend has a program called Piece of the Pie, which invites local nonprofits to create a pizza and then, and then, and then? Here's the sweet part of the savory story: The beneficiary will receive $4 from each pie sold.

The August pizza, created by the students who participate in 826LA's creative and expository writing programs, includes pepperoni, bacon crumbles, mozzarella, parmesan, jalapeños, tomato sauce, and, you got it, oregano for added zing.

The cost? It's sixteen dollars.

You'll nosh, and get into the whole crust-lovely experience of it, all the while knowing how some of the proceeds of the pizza will assist teachers and young people ages 6 to 18 in their writerly, imaginative, think-bigger pursuits.

Is Pizza August better than Pizza Friday or even Pizza Monday or Pizza Right Now? Trick question: All Pizza ____ events exist on the same, totally even, sprinkle-on-the-sauce playing field.
