Apartments Proposed At Sepulveda's Circuit City

[Dead Circuit City, site of planned apartments]
The march of development continues around Sepulveda Boulevard. While developer Casden Properties rankles some Westside groups with its plan for housing and a Target at the corner of Pico and Sepulveda, and a bunch of new condos around Sawtelle try and unload, Red Mountain Retail, the Santa Ana-based developer behind the South GateEl Portal mall is looking to put apartments and housing on the site of the old Circuit City (and then a failed Shoe Pavilion) at 3115-3127 Sepulveda Boulevda (at National). The project, which proposes 163 apartments, a 24,000 square foot retail space, and 429 parking spaces, is being designed by Santa Barbara-based architecture firm Hochhauser Blatter. The retail space would likely be a neighborhood-serving retail, according to Eric Nelson, vice-president of entitlements for Red Rock. What about all those Westsiders fighting development? Nelson says his company has been "working closely with the neighborhood to address concerns." (It's the Mar Vista Community Council they've been meeting with, according to Nelson.) If all goes smoothly, Red Mountain hopes to break ground next year.
